Ghost Story Writing Workshop with Adam Z. Robinson

Join writer and performer Adam Z. Robinson for a special Halloween creative workshop and learn how to write spine-tingling ghost stories.
Ever wanted to create your own spine-chilling tales? Do you want to improve your creative writing craft? Join writer, theatre-maker and workshop leader Adam Z. Robinson for this thrilling and productive workshop on ghost story writing. You’ll look at building tension and atmosphere, creating riveting narratives and backstories, explore how best to structure a ghost story and consider the all important question: how do we make ghost stories scary? Writers of all experience welcome.
This event takes place in person in the Grosvenor East building on the third floor (Room 3.13) at Manchester Metropolitan University. There will be tea and coffee on arrival. It is funded by the Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies.

Adam Z. Robinson is a writer, theatre-maker and prize-winning author of flash fiction. His work includes: Upon the Stair (“Everyone needs to see this show” – ✭✭✭✭½ – The Reviews Hub) and Smile Club (✭✭✭✭ – The Guardian) co-written with Andrea Heaton. His plays The Book of Darkness & Light and Shivers toured nationally between 2016-2019. As well as his original plays, Adam has adapted classic works for the stage: Nightmares (touring October-November 2024), Haunted (two national tours, 2023) and A Christmas Carol (national tours 2019-21; residencies in London and Canada).
Adam’s other writing includes: Conscientious (national tour 2014), Belle & Mary (a true crime play commissioned by The Dukes Lancaster, 2021) and Seaside Terror (national tours 2017-20) with OddDoll Theatre. His most recent play, Unhomely, premiered at Leeds Playhouse in 2024. Adam is the host of The Ghost Story Book Club podcast.
