Gothic Presents 1980s Popular Gothic 2

Gothica is an informal, online monthly reading group exploring all areas of the Gothic in literature and popular culture. Gothica was founded in 2019 at the University of Birmingham by doctoral researchers Katrina Jan and Dr Emily Vincent, then joined by Ross Conway, and you can find out more about us here. Each session is two hours long, hosted by a special guest speaker with academic expertise in the Gothic, followed by relaxed breakout room discussions related to the monthly theme.
1980s Popular Gothic Guest Speaker: Dr Sorcha Ní Fhlainn (Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies, MMU)
Sorcha Ní Fhlainn is a Reader in film studies with a specialism in American film at Manchester Metropolitan University and leads the Popular Screen Cultures Network. Her work is largely rooted in socio-cultural and historical approaches to film studies, cultural studies, popular and contemporary American literature and popular cinema. She also specialises in Gothic studies and horror cinema, with a focus on vampires (fiction, culture, and film), postmodern subjectivity, serial killing, and monster studies. She is Reviews Editor for the International Gothic Association.
